Bill "Diamond Bill" J. Chancey

June 2, 1923 - March 21, 2008

Bill J. Chancey, born June 2, 1923 in Barling, Arkansas, passed away at his home at Indian Bay, March 21, 9:30 A.M. He was of the Baptist Faith and a 32 Degree Scottish Rite Mason. After 68 years as a truck driver, he had recently retired, driving the past several years for Steve Cannon.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents and a sister. He is survived by his wife of 32 years, Marzee Chancey; three sons, Darrell Chancey (wife, Becky) of Heber Springs, Andy Coats (wife, Evelyn) of Indian Bay and Eddie Chancey (wife, Lynn) of Oklahoma; two daughters, Janice Spakes (husband, Larry) of Helena and Tammy Baldwin (husband, Monroe) of Alicia, Arkansas and 16 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.

He will also be remembered by his friends, of whom many were his fellow truck drivers who will always have their favorite stories and fond memories of “Diamond Bill”.

Pallbearers were Jimmy Wilson, David Gordon, Bill Beedle, Bill Beedle, Jr., Phil Ferbie, Dennis Hamner. Honorary pallbearers were Steve Cannon, Dr. Reddy, Tommy Gregory and Jerry Parrish.

Services were held at Roller-Citizens, Monday, March 24 at 2 P.M. with Monroe Baldwin, son-in-law, officiating. Burial was at Sunset Memorial Park in West Helena.
