Jacob Phylander “J.P.” Stephens, 84, of Elaine, Arkansas passed away Monday, October 14, 2013 in Little Rock, Arkansas. Mr. Stephens was born June 23, 1929 at Beulah, North Dakota to the late Phylander and Pearl Jackson Stephens. Mr. Stephens was a retired carpenter and of the Baptist faith.
Mr. Stephens is survived by his son, Otis Stephens of Elaine; a daughter, Joy Ann Baker of Washburn, Missouri; five grandchildren, Mellisa Reece, Sheena Whitworth, Candice Hamilton, Jeffery Buckley and Micky Baxley; and nine great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Katherine Stephens; two sisters, Pearlie Washburn and Myrtle Barley; a brother, Merle Stephens and a half-brother, David Chamberlin.
Graveside services for Jacob Phylander Stephens will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, October 17, 2013 at Sunset Memorial Park in West Helena. Reverend Steve Stephens will officiate. Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. Wednesday, October 16, 2013 at Roller-Citizens Funeral Home.
Services will be directed by Roller-Citizens Funeral Home, West Helena (870) 572-2571.
