The maiden name of the deceased was Viola Bevee. She was born in Lawrence county, Mich. Nov. 12, 1842 and her childhood life was spent in Michigan and Illinois. At the age of 17 she was married to Nathan E. Stoughton; to them three children were born; Lillian, Georgian and Frank, the former of whom is now Mrs. John Whalley of Salt Lake City, Utah. The other two are deceased. Georgian grew to maturity, was married and was the mother of two children, while Frank died at the age of 18 months. Her husband, Nathan E. Stoughton, died in 1871 and on the 4th of March 1873 she was married to John C. Stoughton, a brother of the deceased husband; to this marriage one son was born, Elmer B., now living in Rogers. Her husband, John C. Stoughton, passed away at St. Petersburg, Fla. Feb. 16, 1913 and was laid to rest in the cemetery in Rogers, Ark. where the remains of the deceased will now rest at his side. The daughter, Lillian S. Whalley, the two granddaughters by the daughter, Georgian, and a sister of the deceased from Monmouth, Ill. were at her bedside at the beginning of her recent illness, while the son, Dr. Stoughton, was with her at the time of her death. The deceased had been a member of the Congregational church for years, having united with that church in Rogers. She and her second husband and little son moved from Michigan to South Dakota in 1883 where they made their home until they moved to Rogers in the fall of 1907.
