William Lawrence Moore, 83, of Maumelle, Arkansas, passed away January 18, 2012. He was born August 27, 1928 in Booneville, Arkansas, to the late Howard Gordon Moore and Evona Kimbro Moore.

Bill Moore was raised in Booneville where he graduated from high school. He attended Arkansas Tech University in Russellville for two years before transferring to the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville where he graduated with a degree in Civil Engineering in 1950.

Following graduation, Mr. Moore completed the Basic Engineer Company Officers course at Fort Belvior, Virginia, as a member of the Arkansas National Guard. In 1952, he was employed by the Arkansas Highway and Transportation Department. During his tenure, Mr. Moore was Resident Engineer on the I-30 bridge construction project. He also served as Expressway Engineer on the Little Rock-North Little Rock Expressway, District Engineer at Harrison and as Assistant Chief Engineer in Little Rock.

In 1969, Mr. Moore was employed by the Ben M. Hogan Construction Company and worked there until being hired by the Improved Construction Methods Company of Jacksonville in 1985. He completed his career as a consultant for the Hardy Construction Company.

Mr. Moore was a lifelong member of the Methodist church and was a charter member of the First United Methodist Church of Maumelle. He was a registered professional engineer, a member of the Arkansas Academy of Civil Engineers and past president of the Arkansas Society of Professional Engineers. He was also a Mason.

Mr. Moore is survived by his beloved wife of 57 years, Jo Nell Ballew Moore of Maumelle; two sons, William Kimbro Moore of Hot Springs and Stephen Lockwood Moore of Little Rock; one brother, Howard Gordon Moore, Jr., and his wife Clarice of Shreveport, Louisiana; four grandchildren, Hannah and Rebekah Moore of Hot Springs, Abigail Moore and her husband Jared of Amity, Arkansas; Matthew Moore of Austin, Arkansas; two great-grandchildren, Sydnee and Bryce Moore; and six nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, January 21, 2012, at the Maumelle First United Methodist Church, 1201 Edgewood Drive. The service will be conducted by Reverend Luke Conway, Reverend Wayne Jarvis and Reverend Zeke Allen. A reception for family and friends will follow immediately at the church. Honorary Pallbearers will be members of the ROMEO (Retired Old Men Eating Out) lunch club of which Mr. Moore was an avid member.

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts made be made to Maumelle First United Methodist Church or to the charitable organization of your choice.
