ROGERS — James L. Conner, June 24, 1911-Feb. 15, 2011. "This is the day that the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it." This verse from Psalms was the one that guided Brother Jim daily, as well as his wife of 73 years, Mary, and daughters, Frances and Janet. Jim spent his life in service to the Lord; from his earliest memories of sitting on a blanket on the floor at a Baptist church in Texas, through his many years of pastoring and teaching Sunday school in churches in Northwest Arkansas and Southwest Missouri. Than in his later years, he composed and e-mailed a weekly Bible study lesson to dozens of people.

Jim loved to paint and take photographs and had an unusual talent for being able to see God's beauty in whatever he was working on. His crowning achievement, though, was his service to the Lord for his entire life.

Jim was born in Abilene, Texas, to W.A. and Martha Frances Conner.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Putman Conner, whom he married in 1937; daughters, Mary Frances Rowe and husband, John, of Sunrise Beach, Texas, and Janet Williams and husband, Don, of Shell Knob, Mo.; four granddaughters; nine great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be Friday at 2 p.m. at Rollins Funeral Home Chapel. Services conducted by Pastor Hal Graves and Chaplin Dean Newberry. Interment will be at Oakley Chapel Cemetery.

Visitation will be Thursday 5 to 7 p.m. in the Chapel.

The family requests that, in lieu of lowers, memorials be made to Gideons International, P.O. Box 1034, Rogers, AR 72757-1034; or Circle of Life Hospice. 901 Jones Road, Springdale, AR 727624
