Mrs. Ruby Busby Kay passed away to join our Lord Tuesday, July 25, 2006, at 1:30 a.m. She was 91 years of age.
Mrs. Kay was born in Batesville, Mississippi on February 3, 1915, to Tom and Ada Murphree Busby. She moved with her family to Caldwell, Arkansas at the age of two (2) and spent the remainder of her life in and around St. Francis County. She married Woodrow Kay in March of 1939 and they had two children. After sixty years of marriage, he preceded her in death in 1999. Mrs. Kay was an exceptional homemaker and cook. She loved having company and insisted everyone who came to her house had to eat. Her home-made doughnuts and rolls were quite memorable. Her family was most important to her.
Mrs. Kay was a charter member of Emmanuel Baptist Church in Forrest City and a faithful Christian. She loved her Lord and the church and attended regularly until illness kept her at home. She went to work at Rel-Toc Manufacturing Company in 1955 where she worked for 27 years and retired in 1982. She enjoyed her work and the many friends she made during this time.
Preceding her in death were her parents, four brothers, Clarence, Bruce, Jim, and Dewitt Busby; and three sisters, Ms. Ida Lindsey. Mrs. Mary Ellis, and Mrs. Lorene Thomas.
She is survived by her daughter, Linda Kay Jones and husband Paul of Russellville; and a son, Laney (Sonny) Kay and his wife, Christy of Forrest City. Also four grandchildren, Barbara Weddle Cole of Little Rock, Gary Wayne Jones of Russellville, Lori Ann Tanner of Russellville, and Aubrey Pierce of Cordova, Tenn. Mrs. Kay had ten (10) great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held Thursday, July 27 from 6 to 8 p.m at Stevens Funeral Home and the funeral will be held Friday, July 28 at 2 p.m. at Stevens Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Forrest Park Cemetery. Pall bearers will be Mrs. Kay's nephews. Officiating will be Brother Alan Payne of Emmanuel Baptist Church and Brother J.E. Hughes of Goodwin Baptist Church.
