Mr. John Thomas "J.T." Higgins Jr., age 71 of Forrest City passed away Saturday, Aug. 25, 2007 at his home. Mr. Higgins was born November 19, 1935, in St. Francis County, to John T. Higgins Sr. and Emma Lockhart Higgins. He lived in St. Francis County all of his life and was a retired farmer and businessman. Mr. Higgins was of the Presbyterian faith and served as a past elder and deacon. He served nine years in the Army National Guard. He was active in many organizations and was a past president of the Forrest City Jaycees, St. Francis County Farm Bureau, and was a recipient of the St. Francis County Farm Family of the year in 1980. He served as an Alderman on the Forrest City City Council from 1975 until 2001. He also served on the Board of Directors of the First National Bank of Eastern Arkansas. Mr. Higgins was preceded in death by his parents, John T. and Emma Higgins and a sister, Francis Anita Higgins. He is survived by his wife, Betty, whom he married in 1970. He is survived by three children, John T. Higgins III (Nancy), of Forrest City, Anita Broadhead (Don) of Collierville, Tenn., and Kara Colvin (Curt) of Conway. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Amanda Rae Higgins of Forrest City, Sara Broadhead of Collierville, Tenn. and John Tyler Colvin of Conway, a step-grandson, Joey Harland and great-grandchildren, Tucker and Gage Harland of Forrest City. He is also survived by one brother, Herman Higgins (Janice) of Forrest City, sisters Donna Davis (Jerry) of Forrest City and Gladys McKnight (Russell) of Gadsden, Tenn. He also leaves many nieces, nephews and friends. Services for Mr. Higgins were held Monday, Aug. 27, 2007 at 10 a.m. at Stevens Funeral Home. Burial followed at Forrest Park Cemetery.
