STRAWBERRY - A one-vehicle accident on Highway 117 in Lawrence County claimed the life of a Strawberry woman Sunday morning. According to officials with the Imboden Fire Department and AET Ambulance of Imboden, Bonnie Smith was traveling north of Strawberry when her vehicle left the roadway and overturned shortly before 11. Lt. Gene Ponder said from his observation Smith’s right tire went up onto a guard rail after it left the highway. She was the only one in the car. Lynn, Strawberry and Smithville first responders with area volunteer fire departments extricated Smith from the vehicle and she was transported by Air Evac helicopter to a Memphis hospital where she later died from her injuries. The accident was investigated by the Arkansas State Police. The cause of the accident is unknown, but the driver, who was in her 80s, was wearing a seat belt, officials said.
