Wiley Fletcher Jones, son of the late Fletcher Ira Jones and Almarie Mozingo Jones Russell, was born October 5, 1943 in Petal, Mississippi. He departed this life July 21, 2014 at his home in Melbourne, Arkansas at the age of 70 years, 9 months and 16 days. He served in the United States Army, where he received a Purple Heart for injuries obtained in combat. He was united in marriage to Carlene Godwin on December 15, 1982 in Horseshoe Bend, Arkansas. He spent his life as a son, brother, uncle, father, grandfather, provider and friend. He was a self made man, buying and selling real estate, operating hotels and owning and operating Pilot Knob Cedar Works in Melbourne.

He survived by three daughters: Dottie Bourassa of Katy, Texas, Michelle Vest and husband Michael of Melbourne and Leslie Johnson of Fayetteville; five grandchildren: Carlee Vest, Alexandra Johnson, Nicholas Johnson, John Bourassa and Brianna Bourassa; one niece: Kathering Machacek of Alvin, Texas and one nephew: David Ray Jones of Melbourne; and a host of other relatives and many good friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife: Carlene Godwin Jones in 2011 and one brother: Bobby Ray Jones.

A celebration of his life will be Friday, July 25 at 1:00 p.m. at Howard Memorial Funeral Chapel in Melbourne with John Hodges officiating. Burial will be at Pilot Knob Cemetery under the direction of Eddie’s Family Funeral Home in Melbourne. Visitation will be Thursday, July 24 from 6-8 p.m.

Pallbearers; John Bourassa, Chris Machacek, Bill Williams, Hayden Waytt, Bobby Machann and Jess Ball.

Honorary Pallbearers: Josh Ball and Wyatt Ball.

Memorials may be made to: St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105.

***Note: This very large double gravestone was placed at the burial spot for Alice Carlene Godwin Jones in the private Wiley Jones Family Cemetery. The gravestone is sawn block gray granite straight out of the quarry. It is 8-1/2 feet wide by 4 feet tall by 2-1/2 feet thick and weighs about 15,000 pounds. It is setting on about two feet of tamped road base.
