BELLA VISTA - Burton Schindler, 80, of Bella Vista died April 26, 2008, at his home. He was born in St. Louis to Ralph J. and Evelyn Burton Schindler.

He was a national sales manager for Sears, Roebuck and Co., and a graduate of Northwestern University. He was a news and feature writer for two Chicago daily newspapers. He served in the Illinois National Guard and the Marine Corps. He moved to Bella Vista in 1995 and served as justice of the peace for District 10 on the Benton County Quorum Court for three years. He was an elder and member of the Presbyterian Church in Bella Vista, founder of the Presbyterian Veterans Council, member of the Bella Vista Men's Chorus for more than 12 years and served as its secretary. He served three years on the Bella Vista Community Cemetery Board. He was currently a member of Bella Vista Community Church and vice president of the church's Men's Club.

He was preceded in death by a son, Eric.

Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Beth G. Schindler of Bella Vista; a son, Carl Schindler and wife Susan of Lake Geneva, Wis.; a brother, Paul T. Schindler of Germantown, Md.; a sister, Martha Schumann Tuohy of Crystal Lake, Ill., and six grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at Bella Vista Community Church.

Memorials may be made to the Endowment Fund of the Bella Vista Community Church or the Salvation Army.
