Husband of Irene Jones Parkman
Sheriff David Alexander 'Dave' Parkman, age 78, of Forrest City, died Thursday at his home in Forrest City. He had been in poor health for the past year.Sheriff Parkman was born August 28, 1927, in Cross County, and was the son of Preston Parkman and Mary Adelaide Drummond Parkman. He lived in Cross County and St. Francis County all of his life. He served as St. Francis County Sheriff from 1987 until 2005, was the former Forrest City Police Chief, had served as a Criminal Investigator for the Cross County Sheriff's Office, was a member of the V.F.W., was a 32nd Degree Mason, a member of the Arkansas Sheriff's Association, was a Veteran of the United States Army, and attended the Emmanuel Baptist Church.Sheriff Parkman married Irene Jones in 1958, and she preceded him in death in 1998. He is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Martie Ramsey and Mrs. Christy Gross, both of Forrest City, and Mrs. Susie Jones of Goodwin; two brothers, Mr. Jerry Parkman of Florida, and Mr. Donald Parkman of Forrest City, one sister; Mrs, Christine Wilkins Hampton of Colt, and six grandchildren: Kimberly Hudson, Carolyn Ramirez, Bo Luker, Meredith Bowers, Tyler Heustess and Blake Jones.Services for Sheriff Parkman will be held at the First Baptist Church, 10:00 a.m., Monday, with burial in Forrest Park Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday evening 4:00 until 8:00 p.m., at Stevens Funeral Home with Stevens Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Memorials are to be made to the Emmanuel Baptist Church or St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital.
