Edna Lura Bates, 88, of Hot Springs, died Sunday, January 10, 2010 in a local hospital. Born September 12, 1921 in Garland County to David and Melvina Harris Howerton, she was a member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary and the First Pentecostal Church of Bryant, Arkansas.
She was predeceased by her husband, Lee Bates; brother, Hiram Howerton; three sisters, Dimple Porter, Delma Helton and Ina Washington.
Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Henry and Debbie Bates of Hot Springs; sister and brother-in-law, Nora and A.D. Padgett of Hot Springs; two grandchildren, Chris Bates and David Bates, both of Hot Spring; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Thursday at Gross Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Jerry Whitley and Brother Larry Gann officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery.
