STONE, Tom L. - (from The Springdale News} "Will find me in the garden. I can't stay here longer, my suffering is so great. Don't take it hard, Mother. Good-by. T.L. Stone." After writing the above message to his wife, Tom Stone walked out in the garden at his home, southeast of Springdale in the Habberton neighborhood, Saturday afternoon about 3 o'clock and committed suicide by shooting himself through the head. The weapon used was a Smith and Wesson 38-calibre and the bullet entered the head just above the left ear, death having been instantaneous. He had long been in ill health but his ailment had not been considered dangerous. A brother, Jack Stone, committed suicide more than a year ago by shooting himself altho he lived a few days after the injury. Another brother, Wm. Stone, committed suicide some 15 or more years ago, using a shot gun. All were residents of the same community and the death of his two brothers might have had some influence in causing the last brother to desire to go the same way. The remains were interred in the cemetery at Sonora Sunday afternoon and carrying out the requests of the deceased, which he is said to have often made, the shroud consisted of a pair of blue overalls and a cheap shirt. He had also told members of the family that he did not want to be shaved after death and that he wanted only a cheap coffin and all his wishes were respected. Mr. Stone was born Sept. 20, 1956 on the place where he died, his entire life having been spent in this community. He is survived by the widow and 4 sons. While he had his peculiarities he was considered honest and straight forward.
