Douglas Eugene “Gene” Woodyard, 79 years old, of Helena, Arkansas, born November 29, 1931, went to be with the Lord Tuesday, April 5, 2011.

He is preceded in death by a son, Douglas Eugene Woodyard, Jr.; father and mother, H.M. and Fanie Mae Woodyard; three sisters and seven brothers.

He is survived by two daughters, Kappi Ross and Margaret Woodyard of Little Rock, Arkansas; two brothers, M.B. Woodyard of Houston, Texas and Howard Woodyard, Sr. of Helena, Arkansas; and many loving nephews and nieces.

He loved his family and greatly enjoyed our large family gatherings. He was a sports fan, having played sports in high school. He liked to hunt, fish, work in his yard and looked forward to planting a vegetable garden every spring. He was a kind and gentle man, a wonderful father, and known for helping others. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

The funeral services for Mr. Gene Woodyard will be 2 p.m., Friday, April 8, 2011 at Roller-Citizens Funeral Home in West Helena, Arkansas. There will be a viewing for family and friends at Roller-Citizens on Thursday, April 7, 2011 from 6-8 p.m. Burial will be at Sunset Memorial Park in West Helena.

Services will be directed by Roller-Citizens Funeral Home, West Helena, (870) 572-2571.
