Rex William Hughes Jr., 72, of Blytheville, Ark., died Saturday, February 22, 2003, at his home.
Born in the Huffman community, he was the son of the late Rex Williams Sr. and Hester Swafford Hughes.
He was also preceded in death by one brother, Ray Hughes.
He served his country in the United States Army Air Corps. He was a retired towboat pilot with Continental Grain, a 32nd degree Mason, a former volunteer firefighter at Ravenden Springs and Water Valley, Ark., and of the Baptist faith.
Mr. Hughes leaves his wife, Shirley Abbott Hughes, of Blytheville; Three daughters: Brenda Horton of Wilson, Ark., Theresa Hughes of Frisco, Texas, and Katrina Wheeland of Bay Town, Texas; One brother, Sammy Hughes of Sherman, Ark.; Two sisters, Patricia Counce and Jan Hughes of Sherman; Six grandchildren; and Two great-grandchildren.
Funeral services for Mr. Hughes were held at 1:30 p.m., Tuesday, February 25, 2003, at the Cobb Funeral Home Chapel in Blytheville with Rev. Leon Jones officiating.
Burial was at the Elmwood Cemetery in Blytheville with Cobb Funeral Home of Blytheville in charge.

Mrs. Shirley Mae Abbott Hughes, 75, of Blytheville died Sunday, May 23, 2010, at St. Bernards Medical Center in Jonesboro.
She leaves her children, Brenda Horton of Cooter, Mo., Theresa Hughes of Quitman, Texas, and Katrina Wheeland of Baytown, Texas; brothers, Alan Abbott of Yucca Valley, Calif., Rodney Abbott of Ontario, Calif., and Clinton E. Abbott of Overton, Neb.; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Services were held in Cobb Funeral Home in Blytheville with burial in Elmwood Cemetery.
