William L. Thompson, Jr the son of William L. Thompson, Sr. and Hattie Mable (Lehman) Thompson.

W.L. "Junior" Thompson, 88, of Jonesboro, formerly of Walnut Ridge, died March 15, 2009, at his home.

Born April 26, 1920, at Manila, he was the son of William L. Sr. and Hattie Mable Lehman Thompson. He was a retired lieutenant for the Arkansas Highway State Police and was a member of First United Methodist Church in Walnut Ridge.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Ruth Childers Thompson, on July 5, 1997, whom he married Dec. 30, 1948; and his second wife, Merle Cargill Thompson.

Survivors include a son, Donnie Hill and wife Joan, North Little Rock; a stepson, Merle McClain, Fort Smith; a sister, Lois Fleman, Richardson, Texas; two grandchildren, Kimberly Tipton and Logan McClain; three great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral is Friday at 1 p.m. in Bryan Chapel with Rev. Steve Cook officiating. Burial will be in Strangers Home Cemetery under the direction of Bryan Funeral Home.

Visitation is Thursday from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
