Herman Harris, age 79, of Choctaw, Arkansas passed away Saturday evening February 9, 2013. He was born January 5, 1934 in Memphis, Texas. He grew up on a cotton farm in the Memphis, Texas area. When he was 19 he joined the Air Force and served his country in the Korean War. After his discharge, he lived in Little Rock, Arkansas where he met the love of his life, Mildred. While they lived in Little Rock, Herman worked as a mechanic and a truck driver. He also enjoyed racing cars with his friends at I-30 speedway in Benton. After moving to Clinton, he worked as a mechanic and school bus driver. He also served Van Buren County as a deputy sheriff for 10 years. He later drove a truck for G & H from which he retired. He also was a faithful member of Formosa Church of Christ where he served as a elder and led singing for many years.
Herman was preceded in death by his parents: T.C. and Thola Harris and sister: Elizabeth Ivy. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Mildred; son: Gary Harris of the home; daughter: Patricia (Bobby) Hartwick of Damascus; grandson: Bradley Hartwick of Damascus (fiancee Myranda); granddaughter: Cassie Hartwick of Damascus; 4 sisters: Myrtle Helm of Childress, Texas, Fern Swindell of High Land Village, Texas, Sue Baldwin of Brady, Texas, and Jimmie Lee (Bobby) Howe of Lake Port, California. Herman was a loving husband, father, and papa. He will be greatly missed.
Visitation will be 6-8:00pm, Tuesday, February 12, 2013 at Roller-McNutt Funeral Home Clinton. Funeral Services will be 10:00am, Wednesday, February 13, 2013 at Formosa Church of Christ in Formosa. Pallbearers will be Bradley Hartwick, James Story, J.B. Story, Gerald Bonds, Bob Belonie, and Robert Esterline. Interment will follow at Culpepper Cemetery.
Arrangements are by Roller-McNutt Funeral Home Clinton.
