Elsie Lee (Reed) Crawford, age 92, of Mountain Home, passed away Monday, June 9, 2014 in Mountain Home. She was born February 17, 1922 in Gamaliel, Arkansas to Thurman and Careline Reed. She was the oldest daughter and second oldest of eleven. She married Thomas Gordon Crawford of the Howard’s Ridge area on January 24, 1942, and remained married to him until his death in 1990.
She was a member of the Mountain Home Church of Christ. She led a long and honorable life worthy of imitation, being a wife and mother during what is commonly known as “The Greatest Generation.” She was a true homemaker and homesteader, able to garden and can produce, raise chickens and tend livestock, make soap and household repairs, sew and quilt, raise a family and make a home with little to nothing, and still look back on a life of challenges with gratitude. She was present for the deaths of both her children in 2006 and 2007, afterward declaring that it was her purpose in life to pray for her four grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents: Thurman and Careline (Foster) Reed, husband: Tom Crawford, daughter: Judy (Crawford) Brison, son: Kennith Crawford, brother: Herb Reed, sister: Margie (Reed) Manchester and brother: Orgil Reed.
She is survived by her granddaughter: Karen (Jones) Robertson of Mountain Home, grandson: Scott Crawford of Mountain Home, granddaughter: Dara (Crawford) Bonds of Bull Shoals, grandson: Thomas Jones of New Orleans, Louisiana, her great-granddaughter: Amber Melton of Davenport, Iowa, great-granddaughter: Kennedy Satterfield of Mountain Home, great-grandson: Justin Bonds of Bull Shoals, five sisters: Virgie Holmes of Gamaliel, Anna Lee Hensey of Cassville, Missouri, Ruby Hawley of Tonganoxie, Kansas, Edna Hensly of Viola and Elva (Lweie) Branscum of Calico Rock and two brothers: Vern (Jane) Reed of Gamaliel and David (Amy) Reed of Mountain Home.
