Jessie Lorene Hicks Majors of Calico Rock, Arkansas died at her home June 9, 2014 at the age of 98. She was born November 19, 1915, on a farm outside of Calico Rock. She was the oldest of four children of Charles E. and Albie Eddington Hicks. Jessie lived in or near Calico Rock her entire life except for a five-year period in the 1950s when the family lived in Kansas. She joined the Calico Rock United Methodist Church in 1958 and was an active members until health issues arose the last few years. She worked for many years until retirement at the age of 70, at the United States Post Office in Calico Rock. She was an avid quilter and gardener.
Jessie is survived by her daughter Barbara Majors Carter and son-in-law Gene of Melbourne, AR; as well as her sons, Jim Majors and Wayne Majors and daughter-in-law Yasmine, of Bartlesville, OK. She also leaves one granddaughter, six grandsons, eleven great, and ten great-great grandchildren, and numerous other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold W. Majors, her parents, three brothers, one daughter and son-in-law, one granddaughter, two grandsons, and a daughter-in-law.
The family would like to thank caregivers Andrea, Courtney, Bobbie, Morgan, Jeri Kay, and all the other dedicated caregivers who took such good care of our beloved Jessie the last couple of years.
Visitation will be at Eddie’s Funeral Home, Calico Rock, from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. on June 11, 2014. Funeral services will be held June 12, 2014, at Calico Rock United Methodist Church at 10:00 a.m. with graveside services immediately following at Spring Creek Cemetery in Calico Rock. The reverends Bill Sardin and Paul Seay will officiate.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you please consider a contribution to the Calico Rock United Methodist Church building fund at Box 369, Calico Rock, AR 72519.
