LEUKENS, E.H. - Death has taken from us another honorable citizen. Last Thursday, March 23, 1893 at his home near Maysville, this county, E.H. Leukens, aged 81 years, passed quietly away after a painful illness of la grippe and malarial fever. The deceased was the father of our townsman, Henry Leukens. He came to New Orleans from Germany in 1833. Then he moved to Washington county, this State, where he remained a short time, going from there to St. Louis. Six months after he went to St. Louis he moved to Washington county again where he married Catherine Baltz. Immediately after his marriage he moved to the homestead near Maysville where he remained until he died. He was a member of the Lutheran church in the old country but when he came to America he joined the Moravian church to which faith he remained true until death. The Democrat extends sympathy to the bereaved family.
