Betty Jo (Dhoritey) Lloyd, 73, of Judsonia, Arkansas, passed away at her home in Judsonia, on Friday, May 27, 2011.
Born in Memphis, Tennessee, on December 29, 1937, she was the eldest of four siblings born to the late William H. (Bill) and Erma (Buck) Dhoritey.
Betty was a 1955 Graduate of Judsonia High School and earned an Associate Degree from Arkansas State University in Jonesboro. At an early age, she labored in the cotton fields of Mississippi County, Arkansas. As a child, she assisted her handicapped mother in the raising and nurturing of her three younger siblings. Alongside her Father, she wired many of the houses that are still standing today following the Judsonia tornado in 1952.
As a young adult, she was working as a waitress when she was introduced to a tall, dark, and handsome young preacher from Harding University. On October 26, 1957, she married the love of her life, Victor Lloyd. They shared thirty-seven wonderful years together and to this union two daughters were born, Vicki June in 1959 and Sandra Renee in 1961. Victor and Betty worked together for the Gosnell, Arkansas school system, Victor as a high school English and Drama teacher and Betty as the Elementary Secretary. They moved backed to Judsonia in 1974 to care for her aging parents where Victor continued his teaching and preaching career and Betty worked as a ward clerk for Central Arkansas Hospital. She worked at the Wal-Mart store in Searcy for 23 years as the Receiving Manager before her retirement in 2003.
She was a member of the Judsonia church of Christ and a servant to many including countless young Harding College students blessed by the work of her hands as she prepared home cooked meals, clothing, and handmade costumes for Spring Sing.
Although she only had two children she was Momma, Granny, Great-Granny, Aunt Betty, and Sister to many. Her house was “home” to all whom entered. There you would find her cooking, sewing, quilting, canning, and working her jig-saw puzzles, all of which she loved to do.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Victor; parents, Bill and Erma Dhoritey; brother, Bryant Dhoritey, and sister, Jannie Rouse.
She is survived by her two daughters and their husbands, Vicki and Tim Cooper of Romance; and Renee and Greg Drewery of Judsonia; two grandsons, Greggory Drewery and Blake Cooper; two great grandchildren, Allexia and Brayden; one sister, Alma Ruth and her husband Bill Brown of Little Rock; brother-in-law, Arthur Rouse of Judsonia; sister-in-law, Kay Dhoritey of Searcy; four nieces, Jane Ann Wyatt of Searcy; Mindy Dhoritey of Omaha, Nebraska; Jill Allen of Judsonia; and Karen Angerman of Judsonia; three nephews, Damon Brown of Los Angeles, California; Billy Don Brown, Jr. of Little Rock; Josh Rouse of Judsonia; and a host of family and friends who will miss her dearly.
A visitation to cherish Betty’s memory will be held on Tuesday, May 31, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Powell Funeral Home in Bald Knob. Services will be held Wednesday, June 1, at the Judsonia church of Christ at 2:00 p.m. Interment will follow at Evergreen Cemetery in Judsonia, Arkansas.
