HUNT, Geo. W. - Rogers lost one of its oldest citizens when Geo. W. Hunt died last Friday morning at 10:20 o'clock. Mr. Hunt had been sick for some time and his death had been hourly expected. Funeral services were held Saturday morning at ten o'clock at the Christian church and were conducted by Rev. Anthony, the pastor, assisted by Rev. McMaster of Ft. Smith, an old friend of the deceased. The local G.A.R. post attended in a body. The following obituary was prepared by Rev. Anthony: Geo. W Hunt was born in Fleming county, Kentucky October 22, 1822, being at the time of his death 84 years, 3 months and 4 days old. The deceased was married to Elvira Lee. To this union was born ten children, six of whom survive him. After the death of his first wife he was united in marriage to his surviving wife. To this union was born two children of whom one, Tom, is still living. Bro. Hunt was converted to Christ more than half a century ago and identified himself with the Christian church and remained in its fellowship until his death. He was a member of the First Christian church of this city at the time of his death. He spent twenty years of his life in Kingston, Mo.; three years in Kansas and twenty years in Rogers. When President Lincoln made the call for volunteers in the 60's Bro. Hunt was among the many who said: "Here am I, send me." He was a faithful soldier in the defense of what he believed to be right and received an honorable discharge when his work was done. Bro. Hunt was never the man physically since the war that he was before. It had been said by many who knew him best, "a good man is gone." A loving husband, a tender father, and a true citizen has gone on that returnless journey. He can no more come to us but we can go to him.
