BELLA VISTA -- Richard Keith Cherry, 79, of Bella Vista died March 11, 2006, at the Highlands Care & Rehab in Bella Vista. He was born May 12, 1926, in Stonington, Ill., to Loren and Elsie Gist Cherry. He graduated from the University of Illinois in Champaign, Ill. He worked in education as a classroom teacher, coach, elementary and junior high principal and district business manager. He retired in May 1982 from School District 47, Crystal Lake, Ill., as assistant superintendent in charge of finance. He enjoyed golf, basketball, hunting, outdoor activities, and his family and friends. He was in the Navy for two and a half years during World War II. He was a member of the Bella Vista Community Church, a sponsor of Quail Unlimited, American Legion Post 341, Association of School Business officials, Illinois Coaching Association, Masonic Lodge (Nunda Lodge 169, Crystal Lake), Scottish Rites (Valley of Chicago), Bella Vista Men's 18 Hole League, and a private pilot.

Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Nita Cherry of Bella Vista; one son, Steve Cherry and wife Karen of Bentonville; one brother, Lewis Cherry of Alexandrai, La.; two grandchildren.

A memorial service is at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday in the Bella Vista Community Church, with the Rev. Richard Lindman officiating. Arrangements are by the Bella Vista Funeral Home and Crematory.
