Wife of George Washington Fitch Sr
Mrs. Martha Jane Fitch, wife of George Fitch Sr., died recently at the age of 65 years at her home near Buckeye. Mrs. Fitch was born in sunny Tennessee, and was married to Mr. Fitch at the outbreaking of the civil war. Soon after their marriage her husband enlisted as a soldier in the Confederacy and fought bravely at the siege of Vicksburg and many other battles of the section. Mrs. Fitch was one of the many of those heroic southern characters who toiled in the field and at the loom to supply food and clothing for their men who were away fighting for their country. The praises of such women will sound in song and in the prose of our Southland as long as our history of tradition may last. She came to Arkansas with her husband in 1867 and setted here in the Vaughan valley where they have raised a family of nine children. She had been a member of the Missioary Baptist church for over 40 years and her actions in life showed the devout Christian
