1889 - 1956
Mrs. Martha R. Matthews, aged 67, of Camden Route 2 and widow of J. H. Matthews died in a Camden hospital at 1:25 p.m. Tuesday. Mrs. Matthews was a lifelong resident of Ouachita County. She was born March 25, 1889, daughter of Peter M. and Julia Wilson Fogle. She was a member of the Champion Hill Presbyterian Church of Cullendale. She is survived by one son, Newton Matthews of Camden; two daughters, Mrs. Harry Robertson and Mrs. W. H. Greer of Camden; two brothers, A. N. Fogle of Camden, and H. P. Fogle of Houston, Texas and one grandson, Bobby Newton Matthews of Camden. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday at the Champion Hill Presbyterian Church by Rev. Alton Shirey, pastor, and Rev. M. W. Miller pastor of the Fairview Methodist Church. Burial will be in Mt. Horeb cemetery by Proctor Funeral Home. (Camden News - October 31, 1956)
