BELLA VISTA-- Albert Bender, 84, of Bella Vista died Dec. 17, 2002, at St. Mary's Hospital in Rogers. He was born Aug. 15, 1918, in Russell, Kan., to Henry L. and Lou Bender. He was an Army veteran of World War II. He married Darlene Brack on Aug. 11, 1946. He farmed near Russell from 1946-1960, before moving to Salina, Kan., where he worked for the city of Salina Water Department until retiring in 1980. He moved to Bella Vista in 1984 from Salina and was a member of the United Lutheran Church in Bella Vista. He was a Chicago Cubs fan.

Survivors include his wife, Darlene Bender of Bella Vista; two daughters,Donna Banman of Salina and Karen Schubert and husband Gene of Rogers; two brothers, Herbert Bender of Russell and Hubert Bender of Great Bend, Kan.; one sister, Helen Maier of Hays, Kan.; four grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; one great-granddaughter.

A memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the United Lutheran Church in Bella Vista with Richard Jebsen and Fred Schaap officiating.

Arrangements are by Bella Vista Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the United Lutheran Church, 100 Cooper Road, Bella Vista, 72715.
