Robert Johann Michalk age 81 of Jacksonville passed away on Sunday, January 27, 2013. Robert was born January 25, 1932 in Duesberg, Germany. Robert left Germany and came to the United States at the age of 21 and joined the United States Air Force. At the rank of Chief Master Sergeant and after 30 years of service Robert retired in October of 1984. His services included being a member of the 16th Special Ops Squadron and flying 167 combat missions. His squadron was involved in over 580 combat sorties in which they received the presidential unit citation for extraordinary heroism from President Richard Nixon. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brother Ernst Michalk of Pinneberg, Germany, Peter Romann Reutter of Aurora, Illinois. Robert was a very thoughtful and devoted husband, dad, opa/uropa and will truly be missed. Survivors include his wife of 38 years Helga of Jacksonville, Arkansas, four step-sons Reny and Peter Reutter of Aurora, Illinois, Paul and Bobby Reutter of Jacksonville, Arkansas, sister-in-law Marianne Michalk of Pinneberg, Germany and all their families which included 10 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Memorial services will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, February 1, 2013 at Moore's Jacksonville Funeral Home. Inurnment will follow in Chapel Hill Memorial Park with Military Honors.
