JONESBORO -- Vivian June Claude Proffitt, 73, of Jonesboro, formerly of Dyess, died Sunday, July 31, at St. Bernard's Medical Center.
She was born in the Nubbin Ridge community and was a longtime resident of the Dyess area. She moved to south Mississippi County from Ravenden Springs in the early 1950s. She was later employed by the South Mississippi County School District as a lunchroom worker and cafeteria supervisor at the Dyess School and later at Rivercrest. She was a member of Dyess Church of Christ.
Survivors include her husband, Billy W. Proffitt of Craighead Nursing Center in Jonesboro; three sons, David Waymon Proffitt of Mobile, Ala., Dr. Danny Lynn Proffitt of Fayetteville, and Dawayne Preston Proffitt of Rogersville, Mo.; three daughters, Darlene Yvonne Richmond and Daundra Annette Carlton, both of Dyess, and Dametra Hodges of Jonesboro; 14 grandchildren, Lori Sarver of Jackson, Miss., Marty Calhoun of Dallas, Stacey Jernigan of Birmingham, Ala., David Proffitt, John Proffitt and Andrew Proffitt, all of Fayetteville, Alison Richmond and Reid Richmond, Bryce Proffitt and Clayton Carlton, all of Dyess, Jennife Erwin of Aurora, Colo., and Kelsie Hodges, Dalton Hodges and Jenna Hodges, all of Jonesboro.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Waymon and Lelia Claude; and two brothers.
A private burial will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday in Potter's Cemetery at Lepanto with a memorial service to follow at 11 a.m. at the Dyess Central Baptist Church.
Visitation will be from 5-9 p.m. today at Roller-Swift Funeral Home of Osceola.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Janes Cemetery Mowing or Trust Fund, 1912 North Park St., Pocahontas 72459; Valley Chapel Church, care of Elizabeth Proffitt, 242 Oak St., Marion, or to the donor's choice of charity.
