{from The Bentonville Record} In the passing of Milton A. Pace who died at the home of his son, Newton B. Pace, in Mound, La. on June 11th, 1926, removes another native son of Benton county whose life in it dates from the year Arkansas, as a state, was admitted into the Union. The general belief is that Mr. Pace was the first male white child born in Benton county although John Keith is said to have been born near Maysville in 1834. He was the son of Christopher Pace, who emigrated to Arkansas in about 1830 and located east of Maysville near what is now known as Pace's schoolhouse. With the Pace family came the Woods family who formed a settlement about three miles east of where Bentonville now stands. Felix G. Lindsey came to this section a few years before and located west of Sulphur Springs. Another pioneer Kentucky family was that of Col. Hugh A. Anderson who came here in about 1836 and located by a fine spring south of Vaughn. Later Mr. Pace and his family bought a tract of land near the Shady Home farm south of Bentonville that is now owned by C.E. Berridge. He again moved to northeast of Bentonville and took up another quarter section of government land. This farm is now known as the old Kindley place, now owned by R. Ericson. Here Milton Pace was born. Until a few years ago Mr. Pace's memory was very bright and the tales of the bear hunts were exciting. Bears were especially numerous along the White river. Deer and turkeys were so plentiful that it did not take much of marksman to kill them. When the Civil War broke out he joined the Southern cause and served four years. In 1865 he was married to Mary J. Maxwell, another well-known pioneer family that came here about 1836 from Tennessee and located near the present Morning Star schoolhouse. It is rather unusual to find in the same county a man 90 years of age who is survived by one to whom he went to school but such is the case in this instance. Mr. Pace in his younger days was a pupil of Uncle Wade Sikes of Rogers who is 97 years of age and still able to be about and is frequently seen here in Bentonville. Mr. Pace was a member of the Presbyterian church and it was with much regret that his old pastor, Rev. Peter Carnahan, who is now in his 88th year, was unable to assist in the funeral services held in Bentonville on Sunday afternoon in the presence of old friends and relatives. Rev. A.W. Henderson conducted the services. Three sons survive him, L.A. Pace of Bentonville; Newton B. Pace of Mound, La. and John B. Pace of Redstone, Montana.

PACE, Milton A. - Milton A. Pace died at the home of his son, Newt Pace, of Mounds, La. last Friday at the age of 89 years. He was the father of Lon Pace of Bentonville and the body was brought to Bentonville for burial Sunday. The deceased was a son of Christopher Pace, one of the pioneer settlers of Benton county, and was a Confederate veteran.

PACE, Mary J. - Mrs. Mary J. Pace, wife of M.A. Pace, died at her home in this city at 2:05 o'clock a.m. on the 19th inst. at the age of 52 years. The deceased was an old and respected citizen of this place, a devout member of the Cumberland Presbyterian church and a truly christian woman. She had been in poor health for a number of years but had borne her sufferings with christian fortitude and endurance. The funeral services were held at the C.P. church, where a large congregation had assembled to hear the comforting words of the pastor, R.W. Reynolds, and to pay a last tribute to the deceased. The remains were interred in the Odd Fellows cemetery. Truly a good woman has gone from among us. We extend sympathy to the bereaved relatives.
