Roy B. Hanks, 90, of Calico Rock, Arkansas passed away February 25, 2013 at Garden Terrace in Overland Park, Kansas. In fond memory and eternal love.
Roy was born in Grandpa Roland's house in Mt. Olive Arkansas September 14, 1922. He is the eldest Son of Shelby and Zella (Benbrook).
Roy grew up on the family farm and graduated from Calico High School in 1941. He worked at a CCC camp in Minnesota. He and brother Eugene enlisted in the Marine Corps in 42. Brother Ernest was soon to follow. He goes to join them at Mt. Olive Cemetery.
His Cousin Virginia Combs introduced him to Luretta Magner in Kansas City in 1947 and he fell in love. They were married September 13th at the Magner farm in Galesburg KS.
They raised the family in Grandview, MO, a suburb of KCMO. They have two sons, Stephen Roy and wife Mary, of Northfield, Minnesota; Grandson, Samuel and wife Betsy; Great Grandsons, Joseph, Nicolas, Ben, John, and Mike. Alan Eugene and wife Cathy of Grandview MO; Grandson; Reed and wife Brenda; Great Grandchildren, Macee and Brady; Granddaughter, Daniele and husband Colby Larimer; Grandchildren, Elijah, Isabele and Colton.
He was a Scout Master in Troop 364 for many years enriching the lives of many young men. Roy was a member and leader of the Ozark Wilderness Waterways Club. He retired from Honeywell in Kansas City as a QC supervisor in 1980 and move back to Calico Rock. He is a Member of the Calico Rock United Methodist Church. Roy was a road builder, log splitter and rock farmer. Here in our hearts and among the pines.
Memorial Services at Cullen Funeral Home Raymore, MO Saturday, March 9th at 12 noon visitation 10-12 noon. Lunch at the family home in Grandview following.
The Funeral Services at Calico Rock United Methodist Church, Calico Rock, Ark. Monday, March 11th at 11 am with visitation 10-11 am with lunch to follow.
Burial will be in Mt. Olive Cemetery in Mt. Olive, Arkansas.
Donations may be made to Calico Rock UMC in lieu of flowers.
