Funeral services for Sam Fritts were held here last Friday, Jan. 19, at 2 p.m., at the Chapel of the Brashears Funeral Home with Rev. Kermit VanZant officiating. Military rites at the cemetery were performed by members of the Hayes-Smith post of the American Legion, with Keith Suton, Chaplain, and Orval E. Faubus reading the services, while Clay McBroom spoke the eulogy.
Pallbearers were World War I veterans, Elmer Oliver, Willie Binam, Adry Gaskill, Elmer Ballew, Albert Markley and Mr. McBroom. The firing squad was led by Melvin Stroud and was composed of Bill Gaskill, Woodrow Coger, Dillard Reeves, Gene Shipley, Frank Collins, E. T. Gabbard and Johnnie Means, all veterans of World War II. Burial was in the Huntsville cemetery with arrangements by Brashears Funeral Home.
Samuel Henry Fritts, farmer, age 60, was born at Huntsville on Aug. 11, 1890, and was a lifelong resident of the county. He was married to Audie Cain, daughter of the late Tom Cain, on April 18, 1920.
He was a veteran of World War I and was serving in France at the time of the Armistice. He was a prominent and well known member of the American Legion post here, being one of its oldest and most active members.
Mr. Fritts became seriously ill about Christmas last year and was taken to the Veterans Hospital at Fayetteville, where he was a patient until his death on Jan. 17, 1951.
Mr. Fritts is survived by his wife, Audie Cain-Fritts, of the home, one son, Jerry Fritts, now a member of the U. S. Navy; two sisters, Mrs. Lottie ??? and Mrs. Aner Rainey, both of Huntsville.
Sam Fritts was widely known as a successful farmer and trader of the section and was well liked and respected. He will be really missed by his friends and by his buddies of the Legion.

Mrs. Audie Floy Fritts, 88, of Rt. 4, Huntsville, Ark., died Jan. 31, 1988, at Meadowview Lodge in Huntsville. She was born July 16, 1899, at Huntsville, the daughter of Thomas R. and Sis Taylor Cain. She was a homemaker, a member of Presley Chapel United Methodist Church and the widow of Samuel Henry Fritts, who preceded her in death on Jan. 17, 1951.
Survivors include one son, Jerry Fritts Sr. of Fort Worth, Tex.; one sister, Mrs. Ora Butler of Bellflower, Calif.; three grandsons, Jerry Fritts Jr. of Huntsville, Sammy Fritts and Terry Fritts, both of Axel, Tex.; and seven great-grandchildren.
Services were Tuesday, Feb. 2, in the chapel of Brashears Funeral Home with the Rev. Ben H. Anderson officiating. Interment was in the Huntsville Cemetery under the direction of Brashears Funeral Home.
Pallbearers were Jerry Fritts Jr., Terry Fritts, Sammy Fritts, Kay Fritts, Larry Cain and Harry Jackson Jr.
