Tracy Torrence Foltz was born 5 June 1891 in Hunt Illinois, the son of Sherman and Nora Rue Foltz. He grew up with six brothers: Donald B.; Wyon T.; Dale P.; Dalton M.; Forrest C. and James N. Before entering the service, he was a farmer.
Torrance enlisted in the Army 19 September 191 7 at Wynne, Arkansas. He served in France from 7 June 1918 to 22 August 1919. His family has the citation Torrence received when he was wounded in action. (The purple Heart Medal was not awarded during World War I.)
The citation is captioned "Columbia Gives to her Son the Accolade of the New Chivalry of Humanity." The lower caption reads, "Tracy T. Foltz, Pvt. Co. D, 30th Infantry Served with Honor in the World War and was Wounded in Action."
He was discharged at Camp Pike, Arkansas, returned to Cross County and resumed farming .
Tracy Torrence Foltz died 16 May 1960 and was buried in Union Grove Cemetery in the Center Community, west of Wynne, Arkansas.
