Brentwood Girl Dies Of Apparent Drowning
FAYETTEVILLE — A 10-year-old Brentwood girl died Monday evening in what investigators say was an accidental drowning.
Deputies went to 18133 Brentwood Mountain Road in southern Washington County shortly before 6 p.m. Monday. A preliminary investigation revealed Alexia Krouse was playing with her 16-year-old brother around the family pond, about 100 yards from their home. Her brother returned to the house, the report stated, and Alexia said she would follow behind. When she didn't return after 10 to 15 minutes, her brother went back and found her floating in the water.
Investigators said he pulled the girl from the pond and ran to get their mother, who notified emergency personnel and began performing CPR. Alexia was transported by ambulance to Washington Regional Medical Center, but medical personnel were unable to revive her, the report stated.
According to Kelly Cantrell, a spokeswoman for the Washington County Sheriff's Office, Krouse was a student at Mountainburg Elementary School. School officials weren't available for comment late Tuesday afternoon.
