Garrett Milam, 25, of Shreveport, Louisiana, died Thursday, September
10, 2020 in Shreveport. Garrett was a native of Delaware, a resident of
Shreveport for most of his life and a former resident of Hamburg. Garrett
graduated from Calvary Baptist High School in Shreveport in 2012. He
received his Bachelor of History degree in 2019, and his Masters of
Education degree in 2020, both from the University of Arkansas at
Monticello. Garrett taught at Hermitage High School and was a member of
the First Baptist Church of Hamburg.
Garrett battled a rare form of lung cancer with dignity and courage, every
day for two years. The Fluker family would like to express heartfelt
gratitude for his doctors, Dr. Lash & Dr. Wang, of Willis-Knighton Cancer
Center and the staff of the Carpenter House for their compassion in
caring for Garrett. Garrett filled the room with laughter and charisma. He
will be remembered by the love that he had for his family and friends. For
all who loved him and lifted him up in prayer, there are no adequate words
to express our gratefulness for your sincere love and concern. All who
loved him are left to cherish his memory.
He is survived by his wife, Emily Fluker Milam; his father-in-law and
mother-in-law, Ron and Angel Fluker all of Shreveport, Louisiana.
Graveside services are 2 p.m., Tuesday, September 15, 2020, in the
Hamburg Cemetery with Rev. Ty Danielson officiating. Honorary
pallbearers are Jim Barnes, Steve Harriman, Turner Roberts, Rick
Sanders, Landen Stovall and Doug Webb. In lieu of flowers, the family
request that memorial donations be made in Garrett’s name to the First
Baptist Church, PO Box 352, Hamburg, AR 71646, or to Jones-Hartshorn
Funeral Home, Inc., PO Box 28, Hamburg, AR 71646.
