LOWELL — Keith Niven Huisman, 66, of Lowell passed away June 5, 2008, of cancer at Washington Regional Medical Center in Fayetteville. He was born June 24, 1941, in Iowa Falls, Iowa, to Tyle and Winifred Niven Huisman.

He grew up in Wellsburg, Iowa, where he was a member of Wellsburg Reformed Church. He served as a Sunday school teacher and was active with the youth. He was a member of the City Council and was owner/operator of Huisman Furniture and Appliances for 15 years.

In 1989, he relocated his family to Northwest Arkansas when he purchased Rozell Appliance Service. He became a member of First Baptist Church of Springdale where he was actively involved in church activities.

His occupation allowed him to build relationships with people that he grew to love and enjoyed the challenges associated with the repair business. His free time was centered on spending quality time with his family. He spent weekends attending and supporting Arkansas Razorback athletics. Living on Beaver Lake allowed him to enjoy the lake lifestyle which included boating, fishing and relaxing.

His last 16 months were focused on his personal battle with cancer.

He is survived by his wife/best friend and love of his life of 44 years, Ruth Luiken Huisman of the home to whom he married July 2, 1963; two sons, Mike Huisman and wife Beth of Kansas City, Kan., and Darren Huisman and wife Annie of Rochester, Minn.; one daughter, Dorene Lawson and husband Mark of Springdale; five grandchildren, Jake Huisman, Tara Huisman, Tessa Huisman, Wade Lawson and Hannah Lawson.

Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. today at Sisco Funeral Chapel in Springdale, online at www.siscofuneral.com.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Monday, June 9, 2008, at First Baptist Church of Springdale with the Rev. Charlie Foster officiating. Burial will be in the Friendship Cemetery.

Pallbearers are Pat Clardy, Dick Finney, Matthew Finney, Harris Reiter, John Reynolds and Ted VanDeest.
