Raymond H. Hower, 89, of Smithville, died May 22, 2009, at his home.

Born Aug. 2, 1919, in Jeannette, Penn., he was the son of Herley and Emma Duncan Hower. A World War II Navy veteran, he was retired from the University of Arkansas Community College at Batesville as an industrial maintenance instructor. He attended Cornerstone Baptist Church at Mount Pleasant.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth Kotz Hower; a brother, Robert Hower; and two sisters, Emma Swanson and Verna Saderski.

Survivors include a son, Mark Hower and wife Becky, Smithville; two daughters, Linda J. Scott and husband Chester W. Jr., Green Lane, Penn., and Jane A. Shisler and husband Jay, Souderton, Penn.; nine grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

Funeral is Thursday at 10 a.m. at Qualls Funeral Home in Cave City with Bro. Elvis Sneathern officiating. Burial will be in Lancaster Cemetery at Jesup.

Pallbearers will be Bruce Gill, Chris Smith, Dwight Smith, Andrew Wortman, Alvin Wortman and John Higgins.

Memorials may be made to the Cornerstone Baptist Church Mission's Program.

Visitation is tonight from 5-7 p.m.
