John B. Lamb, age 72, passed away Thursday, July 6, 2006, at his home in Dover. He was born September 23, 1933, at Bragg City, Missouri, a son of Sam and Annie Langley Lamb, but was raised at Delight, Arkansas, where John graduated from the Delight High School.

As a young man he became a man of many talents, and began by joining the United States Army and served honorably for two years. After his military service, he joined the Little Rock Fire Department where he retired after 20 plus years as a firefighter, and was also a member of the Pulaski County Mounted Patrol. Prior to his retirement from the fire department, John met Jimmy Lile, the knife craftsman from Russellville, and began making leather goods and other items for Jimmy. John and Jimmy remained close friends and business associates for nearly 20 years until Jimmy's death.

After retirement from the fire department, John began working at Arkansas Nuclear One as a Safety and Fire Prevention Coordinator where he worked for numerous years before retiring from Entergy. John loved life and enjoyed many hobbies, including training horses, judging horse shows, and riding cutting horses at the local rodeos. He loved the outdoors and especially, fishing and hunting. Throughout John's life he was known as a man who wore many different hats.

After moving to Dover, he joined the Dover Church of Christ where he was a member for numerous years. He was a former Deputy for the Pope County Sheriff's Department and operated a leather shop out of the basement of his home for several years. In his leather shop, he made many of the leather goods used by the local police departments.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Kelly, R. L., and Tom Lamb; and a sister, Louise May.

John is survived by his wife of 39 years, Flo Lamb of Dover; two daughters and sons-in-law, Tammy and Marc Taylor of Dover and Nita and Eugene Barnes of Russellville; two sisters, Mary D. Hughson and Mauda E. Russell both of North Little Rock; three grandchildren, Amanda and Chris Taylor, and Meagan Thompson; and other relatives and friends.

The funeral was held at 10 a.m. on Monday, July 10, 2006, at the Shinn Chapel with Mr. Micah Williams officiating. Burial was in the Lane Cemetery north of Dover under the direction of Shinn Funeral Service.

Active pallbearers were Randy, Scotty, and Kevin Little, Chris Taylor, Gary Newport, and Josh Freeman. Honorary pallbearers were Jay Winters, Ray Caldwell, A. J. Price, Jim Hardy, and D. P. Newport.
