Penny Ann was married to John McClanahan.
Oral history said they migrated from Tennessee in the mid-1850s, crossing the Mississippi River on ice. the settled in Carroll Co. AR
Penny was said to be an excellent horseback rider. As an Indian, her English wasn't very good, when ask a question, she would gesture and grunt, just like an old Indian squaw is what her daughter-in-law, Elizabeth Alley McClanahan said.
