One of the oddities of the Curtis Cemetery is that there are three Civil War Veterans buried there, two buried next to each other. William Thomas Greer was from the South and was a Union soldier while Sparta Van Buren Curtis was from the north and was a Cofederate soldier.

William Thomas Greer's Union Civil War Pension papers say:
I also was conscripted and carried into the Confederate Army, and served in CO A, 16th ARK Regt., something near one year, under Col Hill & Lieut Col Pixley and Capt. David Goodnight. It also mentions he was age 17 and discharged at Port Hudeon, La. Feb 5, 1863 by reason of being a minor. He was 19 when he enlisted in Co B. 3rd Ark. Cavalry.
