WILLIAMS, Rex - Rex, the fifteen-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. George Williams of Walnut Hill, southeast of Garfield, was killed last Friday evening by the kick of a horse. Details of the death are given by the Providence correspondent. Mr. and Mrs. Williams have been the Walnut Hill correspondents of the Democrat for a good many years and both attended the picnic (Mr. and Mrs. Erwin Funk, he being editor of The Rogers Democrat, gave a picnic at their home for all the country correspondents. Ed.) here two weeks ago, altho Rex was unable to be with them. We know that all Democrat readers, as well as the other correspondents, unite with the editor in extending to the bereaved family sympathy in this hour of their great sorrow.

(from Providence) Rex Williams was born August 27, 1907 and was accidentally killed September 15, 1922. He and his father were teaching the Ozark school. On returning home Friday evening they stopped to put the buggy away in a tenant barn about a quarter of a mile from the house. Mr. Williams was leading the horse and Rex was walking close behind when they met J.N. Blankenship with a wagon and team. In passing Mr. Williams walked out thru some tall weeds and the horse put its head down to graze. Rex, seeing the horse slow to lead on, walked up and kicked or struck it with something which frightened the horse, causing him to kick, striking the boy in the chest. When Mr. Williams looked around Rex was falling and spoke these words, "Oh, papa, come." Mr. Williams ran to him and gathered him into his arms and immediately stopped Mr. Blankenship and beckoned him back to assist him. They did everything possible to restore respiration but the blow was too heavy and proved fatal in less than five minutes. This was indeed a sad shock to his many friends who were numbered by his acquaintances, for he was certainly a good, obedient boy, ever attentive to home duties, always helping his mother, when she was crippled, with the daily chores in every way he could and the last day he lived he helped his mother with the morning work by making the beds, drying the dishes and packing their school lunch. Starting off to school for the last time his last words to his mother were, "Mama, I don't want you to work so hard today." He had been a consistent member of the Missionary Baptist church for four years, always attending church and Sunday school regularly and contributed his last birthday offering to the Orphan's Home. Rex was a boy of exceptionally bright intellect, having obtained a teachers' license thereby being able to teach in the rural schools at the tender age of fifteen years. We surely recognized him a Providence boy, as he was never a pupil of any other school except for a few months at Bestwater. Funeral services were held at the home, conducted by Rev. Bilberry, with short talks by Rev. Zinn and Rev. Deason and E.J. Taylor. He was laid to rest in the Snoderly cemetery and leaves a heartbroken mother and father, two brothers, Herbert and Wren Williams, all present at the funeral, also a host of relatives and friends to mourn their loss.
