BYLER, James F. - James Byler, 67 years old, was killed Friday at his home south of Garfield when his team ran away with him in the hay field and he was so badly injured that he died an hour or two later. Our correspondent at Providence sent the following story of the unfortunate accident: "James F. Byler and son, Harper, were working in the hay field together. His son was shocking hay and being some distance away did not notice that anything was wrong until his father called to him to catch the team of mules. At that time Mr. Byler was lying across the rake tongue and when his son attempted to stop the mules they swung in a circle and ran through the wire fence and out into the timber. When the team turned Mr. Byler fell headlong to the ground. When Harper reached his father he thought that he was dead and ran to the home about a quarter of a mile away for other members of the family. When they reached the scene of the accident they discovered there was still life and a doctor was called. His head and face were badly bruised and mangled but he lived about four hours without regaining consciousness. Mr. Byler is known in many parts of the country as the salesman for the Shores-Meuller remedies. The Byler family came to Benton county about twenty-five years ago from Missouri. The deceased is survived by his wife and nine children: Harper and Roy Byler, Mrs. Albert Shaeffer and Mrs. Russell Parks, all of Garfield; Henry Byler and Mrs. Kitty McClain of Bartlesville, Okla.; Mrs. Hayden Easley of Chickasha, Okla.; Mrs. Ira McChesney of Tulsa and Mrs. Mabel German of Kansas City.

BYLER, Maggie M. POTTS - {from Providence} Maggie M. Potts was born at Harrisonville, Mo. October 10, 1865 and was married to James F. Byler February 20, 1884. To this union was born 11 children, four boys and seven girls, of whom nine are living. They are Harper Byler, Mrs. Mable German, Roy Byler, Mrs. Louise Park, Mrs. Vesta Easley, Miss Maggie Byler and Jim Byler, all of Garfield, Ark., and Mrs. Kitty McClain and Mrs. Beatrice McChessney, both of Bartlesville, Okla. All were at her bedside when she passed quietly and peacefully away on March 6, 1923 at the age of 57 years, four months and 26 days. Besides her immediate family she leaves one sister, two brothers, a number of half brothers and sisters and 21 grandchildren. She moved with her family to Benton county in 1903 where she lived the rest of her life. She united with the Primitive Baptist church at Providence February 11, 1906 and was baptised by Elder W.J. Taylor and lived a faithful and consistent member until the death angel came to bear her soul away to a brighter world. Mrs. Byler had been in failing health for about two years and she was confined to her bed for several months but was never heard to complain. She never was heard to speak ill of anyone, just a kind and patient mother, much devoted to her family and ever willing to sacrifice for their comfort.
