Arvel Hughes, 95

Arvel Hughes, age 95 of Gassville, passed away Saturday, October 5, 2013 at his home. Mr. Hughes was born September 25, 1918 in Henderson to John and Curtis (Sinor) Hughes. He served his country in the United States Army during World War II. On January 12, 1948 he married Ella Faye Light in Salesville. Mr. Hughes worked for over 25 years as a construction superintendent for the Carrothers Construction Company in Paola, Kansas. He was a member of the VFW, and he enjoyed raising cattle and ranching.

Mr. Arvel Hughes is survived by his wife Ella Hughes, a son and his wife Harold and Laraine Hughes of Jonesboro, Arkansas, a daughter and her husband Debra and Tim Jackson of Leavenworth, Kansas, grandchildren Tony Skidmore, Matthew Jackson and Ryan Jackson, great grandchildren Raigan McCarty and Garrett Cade Skidmore, a sister and her husband Abitha and Clyde Dye of Norfork, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister Ceordelia Jones, a brother Lindsey Hughes, his twin brother Armel Hughes, a brother Abija Hughes, a brother Franklin Hughes, and a sister Vesta Hughes.

A Funeral Service will be held Thursday, October 10, 2013 at 1:00 P.M. at the Arkana Schoolhouse. A Visitation will be Wednesday, October 9, 2013 from Noon to 9:00 P.M. with the family receiving friends 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. at Roller Funeral Home. Interment will be at the Arkana Cemetery with military honors. Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of the Ozarks. Arrangements are under the direction of Roller Funeral Home.
