MOUNT PLEASANT — Conway Hames, 75, of Mount Pleasant died Tuesday, Feb. 3, 2009, at his home.
Born May 3, 1933, in LaCrosse, he was the son of Vernon Delma Hames and Audie Mae Felton Hames. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, attaining the rank of corporal. He was united in marriage to Mary Ruminer on July 17, 1951, in Batesville. He was a carpenter and an avid golfer, hunter and fisherman. He was of the Baptist faith and attended Mount Pleasant Southern Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife of 57 years; two sons, Lenord Hames of Melbourne and Lance Hames of Sidney; two daughters, Vickie Medlock of Smithville and Shelia Stanek of Mount Pleasant; a brother, Harlin Hames of Melbourne; a sister, Betty Johnson of Mount Pleasant; six grandchildren, Ken Medlock, Chris Blankenship, Camron Hames, Ashley Miller, Carlie Qualls and Garrett Hames; a great-granddaughter, Sadie Medlock; and an aunt, Nova Ackman of Cape Girardeau, Mo.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Mount Pleasant Southern Baptist Church with Bruce Qualls officiating. Burial will be in Reeves Cemetery under the direction of Eddie's Family Funeral Home in Melbourne.
Pallbearers will be Marc Miller, Mark Herrington, Kenny Moser, Bob Blankenship, Dave Sharp and Shannon Simpson.
Honorary pallbearers are Joe Gass, Ben Cooper and the members of the Men's Golf Association. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 tonight at the church.
