Douglas Frank Pierce, 88, of Hamburg died Monday, January 17, 2011, at the Bradley County Medical Center in Warren. Born February 13, 1922, in Paris, TN, and a resident of Ashley County for 60 years, he was an U. S. Army veteran of World War II. He retired from Georgia-Pacific and was a Baptist. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and loved gardening.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Bess Marie Mormon Pierce of Hamburg; three sons, William Pierce and wife Vicki of Crossett, Jeff Pierce of Hamburg and Robert Dement of Buckeye, AZ; three daughters, Dorothy Spurlock and Gina Keller of Crossett and Sherry Rand and husband Steve of Warren; eleven grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and friends. He was preceded in death by his father, William Pierce, his mother, Katie Douglas Pierce; his step-mother that raised him, Sally Maude Daniel Pierce; two brothers, Kinny Pierce and Johnnie L. Pierce; and four sisters, Lula Bell Pierce, Ethel Blandford, Mary Blandford and Nellie Johnson.
Funeral services were at 2 p.m., Thursday, January 20, at North Main Baptist Church with Rev. James Thompson officiating. Burial was at Cleveland Cemetery. Pallbearers were Eddie Corder, Jim Skender, Johnny William Pierce, Herman Mormon, Jr., Steven Sadler and Cody Rice. Honorary pallbearers were Milford Mills and Wesley Fairchild.
Memorials may be made to the North Main Baptist Church Building Fund, 1105 N. Main, Hamburg, AR 71646. Funeral arrangements were by Jones-Hartshorn Funeral Home of Hamburg.
