Dollie Marie Shields, 81, of Hamburg died Thursday August 2, 2007, at the Summerlin Lane Nursing Home in Bastrop, LA. A native of Bastrop, LA, a resident of Hamburg since 1945 and a resident of the Summerlin Lane Nursing Home for the past four years, she was a nurse at the Morehouse General Hospital in Bastrop until 1945 when she married and moved to Hamburg and became a homemaker. She owned and operated Shields Grocery Store south of Hamburg for many years. She was a member of the First Baptist Church and taught Sunday School at the Gardner Baptist Church for many years.
She is survived by a son, Steven Shields and wife Donna of Hamburg; two sisters, Lottie Carpenter and Ruth Singley, both of Bastrop; and a grandson, Drew Shields and wife Jodi of Hamburg. She was preceded in death by her husband, Loyd Shields; her parents, Frank L. & Mollie Amanda Hughes Burnette; two brothers, Leslie & Floyd (Elton) Burnette; and three sisters, Winnie Holland, Bessie Rea & Dora Simms.
Funeral services were at 9 a.m., Saturday, August 4, in the chapel of Jones-Hartshorn Funeral Home with Rev. Klois Hargis and Richard Byrd officiating. Burial followed at the Antioch Cemetery. Pallbearers were Dennis & Richard Byrd, Chad & Shawn Higginbotham, Eric Selby and Nick Thames.
