OWNBEY, Porter M. - P.M. Ownbey, better known as "Uncle Porter," died Saturday of Brights disease at his home in Springdale after an illness of several days. The remains were interred Sunday morning at Friendship, services being conducted by Eld. Jas. Dodson, pastor of the Primitive Baptist Church. The deceased was 73 years of age and had been a resident of this section for many years. When he first came to this country he located over in Oxford Bend. He had been living in Springdale a number of years, occupying his residence property near the old Baptist church all the time. He was the father of three sons and four daughters. The former are all dead. The daughters are Mrs. W.H. Searcy, Mrs. S.H. Slaughter, Mrs. Florence Bryant and Mrs. L.B. Reed, all of whom were present at the funeral. His wife also survives him. Soon after the organization of the Adventist Church at this place Mr. Ownbey united with that organization and was one of its strongest supporters. Several months ago, however, he withdrew from the church and united with the Primitive Baptist Church, of which he was a member at the time of his death. Uncle Porter was a good citizen, esteemed and respected by all and the sorrowing family have the sympathy of their many friends.
