Bennett T. Burks, aged 74 years, widely known business man, member of a pioneer family, died at 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 21, 1933 after a week's illness. Death was due to a complication of diseases. Mr. Burks, senior partner in the Bentonville Cash Store, was stricken in the store last Wednesday when he collapsed. Hardening of the arteries, Bright's disease and other complications are said to have caused his death. His heart was normal. Gradually becoming weaker he was removed to the Maude Young hospital Tuesday where he could have better care. Yesterday he became worse and the end was thought to be near. Mr. Burks was born in Barron County, Kentucky in 1859. He was the son of A.L. and Sallie Terry Burks. He came to Bentonville when a young man. Later he married Miss Margaret Moody. About 40 years ago Mr. Burks and his brother-in-law, W.T. Dudley, established the Bentonville Cash Store which has been in continuous business since that time. Mr. Burks was a member of the Christian Church, an upright business man and although of a retiring disposition had many, many friends all over the county. Besides his widow, Mrs. Margaret Burks, he is survived by a brother, W. Arthur Burks, and a sister, Mrs. W.T. Dudley, all of Bentonville.
