Jacob Shaver was born in Sumner Co, N C June 15, 1790. In 1824 he came to Arkansas but
where he settled the writer does not remember. But 1838 found him in Washington County where he made a profession of religion and joined the Cumberland Presbyterian Church under the ministry of the Rev Andrew Buchanan. In 1849 he moved to Franklin County where he spent the remainder of his long and eventful life. He was a soldier of the War of 1812. Uncle Jacob was an earnest, true man while he was not noisy, but on the contrary was very quiet, and attended strictly to business, his religion was prominent. He was a Christian and his religion was of that character which took hold of and controlled his own life and conduct. He became a member of the White Oak congregationin 1851, but transferred his membership to Lone Elm in 1882. For about 6 years Uncle Jacob was confined to his room, and much of the time to his bed, in consequence of a very serious
hurt from a fall on the ice in Ozark. He suffered a great deal but bore it with a great deal of Christian fortitude, and on the 19th of August passed away quietly and was buried at Fleeman’s Chapel by the side of his wife who had preceded him by 30 years. He left several children and a great many grandchildren and quite a number of great grandchildren.
