HANKINS, James W. - (from Morning Star) Grandpa Hankins died Saturday morning at the home of his son, A.I. Hankins, where he had been making his home for several years. He was laid to rest Sunday afternoon in Bentonville, services being conducted by Rev. Clarence Coffelt of Centerton. The bereaved family have the sympathy of the entire community.

James W. Hankins died May 18th at the age of 84 years at the home of his son, I.A. Hankins south of Bentonville with whom he had resided. Rev. Clarence Coffelt conducted the funeral exercises Sunday and burial took place in the Centerton cemetery. James W. Hankins was born in Roane county, Tennessee June 12, 1845 and came to Faulkner County, Arkansas at the age of six years. He joined the Federal army at the age of 18 years and served 18 months in Missouri. Practically his entire life has been spent in Arkansas, for he lived the past several years south of Bentonville with the exception of seven years spent in Oklahoma. He was married to Caroline Mallett at the age of 22 years, to whom one son was born. July 23, 1869 he was married to Julia Ann Alexander who bore him five children, two of whom have passed on. Mr. Hankins professed the Christian religion at an early age and has been a member of the Missionary Baptist church for more than 50 years. Surviving are his wife, four sons: Wesley and W.L. of Ripley, Okla.; I.L. Hankins of Cushing, Okla. and I.A. Hankins of Bentonville, also 21 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren. All of his sons were with him at the time of his death.
