Descendant of William Crawford McAlister and Mary (Polly) Webb McAlister, son of (Meredith)Crawford McAlister and Lewvina Churchill McAlister.

A Man of many talents and skills, he was a Farmer, Carpenter, coffin builder, blacksmith and Justice of the Peace. Built many houses in the Hector area including his daughter Ruth’s. It was family legend he could accurately determine the amount of lumber required, build a house and have not much more than four board feet remaining when the house was completed. These accomplishments were performed with a third grade education, so it was told. Father of 12 children.

He was highly respected and recognized for building numerous coffins for those buried in Walnut Grove Cemetery, over a period of many years.

Married Mary Naomi Robertson October 23, 1902 in Pope County Arkansas. She predeceased her husband December 1942.

Lived alone for many years in a 3-room house on the main road, south of Hector. This house still stands but has been unoccupied since his death. It is still owned by a member of the family.

Died at Dardanelle Hospital, Yell County, where his son-in law was on staff, age 91


Mary "Naomi" Robertson McAlister
As with most folks, was known by her middle name, Naomi, and is listed as such on her grave marker.

Born at Mulberry, Franklin County, Arkansas. She was the Daughter of Lemuel D. "Dee" and Mary Alice "Hunt" Robertson. She was the wife of George Walker McAlister Sr. whom she married October 23, 1902. With G.W. McAlister she had issue 12 children. Child number 4 "Lloyd" died at 3 years 6 months 17 days (D. October 15 1911) due to "Locked Bowels" as it was known then. Lloyd was the first to be buried in the G.W. McAlister Sr. family plot. The Family land and house where Naomi was raised still exists and continues to be occupied by the Robertson family, near Hector bordering Dare Creek and not far from the McAlister farm where she gave birth to, (Except for Mardie who was born in Faulkner County) and raised her children.

Died after an extended illness December 27, 1942. Was cared for until her death by her children, especially her 11th child, then 20 year old George Walker McAlister Jr. on the McAlister family farm, between Appleton and Hector, north of Clear Creek which runs approximately 300 yards to the south of the old farm house location. This is now all private property and posted. No access!

Was buried January 2 1943. Burial delayed until sons in the military could be granted emergency leave and travel home for funeral.
